Writing & readability checker

Paste your text for instant, private feedback, a readability score, counts, your longest sentences, repeated words and doubled words. It does not check spelling or grammar, and nothing you paste leaves your device.

About this tool

This checker looks at the mechanics of readability rather than correctness. It counts words, characters, sentences and paragraphs, works out the average sentence length, and estimates a Flesch reading-ease score (0–100: higher means easier to read) from sentence length and syllables per word. It then surfaces the three longest sentences, anything over 25 words is flagged, the content words you lean on most (used four or more times, with everyday glue words excluded), and doubled words like “the the” that slip in while typing.

What it deliberately does not do: spelling and grammar. Judging whether a sentence is correct takes a dictionary and a grammar rule engine, and this page makes no such claim, for that, use the checker built into your word processor. Everything here is counting and simple pattern matching, which is exactly why it can run entirely on your device: no account, no upload, and it keeps working offline once the page has loaded. The counts are honest estimates, sentence splitting and syllable counting are heuristics, so treat the score as a guide, not a grade.

Common questions

Does this check spelling or grammar? No, and it does not pretend to. It checks readability and style patterns: counts, sentence length, a readability score, repeated words and doubled words. For spelling and grammar, use a dedicated checker or your word processor's built-in one.

Is my text uploaded or stored? No. Every calculation runs in your browser on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, nothing is stored, and the tool keeps working with the connection off once the page has loaded.

What is a good Flesch reading-ease score? Roughly: 90–100 very easy, 70–89 easy to fairly easy, 60–69 standard plain English, 50–59 fairly difficult, and under 50 difficult. Most general-audience writing aims for 60 or above; legal and academic text often sits far lower.

How this one works: everything runs locally in your browser. Your text is never sent to a server, never stored and never tracked, you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it will still work. That local design is also why it checks readability and style rather than spelling and grammar.
