Terms and conditions generator

Plain, complete website terms from a few answers, acceptable use, intellectual property, payments, liability and disputes.

About this tool

Terms and conditions are the contract between a website and its visitors: what the site provides, what users may and may not do, who owns the content, and how disputes are handled. This generator assembles a complete plain-language set, acceptance, acceptable use, intellectual property, the optional modules for accounts, sales, subscriptions and user content, disclaimers, liability limits, governing law and contact, including only the modules your site actually has, because terms describing features that do not exist confuse users and courts alike.

As with every legal template on this site: this is a starting framework, not legal advice, and enforceability depends on jurisdiction and on how the terms are presented (a link nobody can find protects nobody). Consumer-protection law in many places overrides aggressive clauses regardless of what a template says. Businesses selling at scale, handling subscriptions with auto-renewal, or operating in regulated industries should have terms reviewed by a lawyer in their jurisdiction, once, properly, then reused.

Common questions

Are generated terms actually enforceable? Reasonable terms, clearly presented and accepted, generally are, but specific clauses (liability caps, arbitration, auto-renewal) have jurisdiction-specific rules. The plainer and fairer the terms, the sturdier they tend to be.

What is the difference between terms and a privacy policy? Terms govern the relationship and the service; the privacy policy governs personal data. Sites usually need both, the Privacy Policy Generator is also on this site.

Do I need terms if my site is free and simple? A short version still helps: it states ownership of your content and a basic acceptable-use line. Generate with nothing ticked for the lean core document.

Private by design: this tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing typed, pasted, or opened here is uploaded, stored, or tracked.
