Turn a yearly salary into the hourly rate it actually works out to — handy when comparing a salaried offer against hourly work.

The conversion divides the salary by the total paid hours in a year (hours per week × paid weeks). The often-quoted shortcut — divide by 2,080 — assumes exactly 40 hours a week for 52 weeks with no unpaid time off. If a role regularly runs 50-hour weeks, set hours per week honestly: the true hourly value of the same salary drops fast, which is exactly the comparison this tool exists for. Figures are gross, before tax.
How many paid weeks are there if vacation is unpaid? 52 minus the unpaid weeks. Two unpaid weeks off means 50 paid weeks — the hourly rate rises, because the same salary covers fewer paid hours, even though the yearly total is unchanged only if the salary itself is fixed.
Is this before or after tax? Before tax (gross). Take-home depends on tax, benefits and deductions — see the Paycheck Calculator for an estimate of net pay.
