Plan a road trip from total distance and daily driving assumptions: drive time, days on the road, fuel, lodging, food and total cost.
The planner turns a total distance into a day-by-day shape using editable assumptions: average speed, hours driven per day, fuel economy and price, and nightly lodging and daily food costs. A fuel stop estimate assumes a usable range per tank entered by the user. Every result is an estimate — real trips add detours, traffic and sightseeing stops — so the assumptions should be adjusted to match the vehicle, route and pace planned.
How many hours a day is reasonable to drive? Many planners use six to eight hours of driving per day for multi-day trips. The field is editable so a faster or slower pace can be modelled before committing to overnight stops.
Why does the fuel estimate differ from the fuel cost calculator? Both use distance divided by MPG. Differences usually come from different MPG or fuel price assumptions entered in each tool, or from detours not included in the total distance.
Does the plan include sightseeing stops? Only through the assumptions. Lower the hours driven per day or add a buffer to the distance and other costs to allow time and budget for stops along the route.
