Open an EPUB book and read it chapter by chapter in the browser, with chapter navigation and images, without uploading the book.
Choose an EPUB file to start reading. DRM-protected books cannot open here because their contents are encrypted.
The reader opens the EPUB as the zip archive it is, reads META-INF/container.xml to find the package (OPF) file, then uses the OPF manifest and spine to build the chapter list in reading order. Each chapter’s XHTML is parsed in the browser, script, iframe and form elements are removed before anything is shown, image references are rewritten to local blob URLs taken from the archive itself, and the cleaned content is placed in a serif reading pane with previous/next buttons and a chapter selector. The scope has hard edges: DRM-protected books are encrypted and cannot open — the reader checks for the encryption file that marks a protected book and fails with that explanation. Fixed-layout books render as their underlying XHTML rather than as exact page images, and fonts embedded in the book are not applied.
Why will a book bought from a store not open? Store-bought books are often DRM-protected, meaning the chapter files are encrypted. An encrypted book cannot be opened by this reader, it will fail with that explanation, and no browser tool can read it without the store's own app and licence.
How are chapters ordered? Chapters are shown in the book's own reading order, taken from the spine of the EPUB package file, which is the order the publisher intended.
Is the book uploaded anywhere? No. The EPUB is unzipped and read locally in the browser; nothing is sent to a server.
