Type a country name to find its international dialling code — the number dialled after your country’s exit code (011 from the US, 00 from most of Europe).
| Country | Calling code |

To call abroad from the US or Canada: dial 011, then the country code, then the number (dropping any leading 0 from the local number). From most of Europe: 00 instead of 011. On a mobile phone, "+" replaces the exit code — hold 0 to get it. Codes in the NANP (North American Numbering Plan) all start with 1 and are dialled like long-distance calls.
Why do some countries share code 1? The US, Canada, and much of the Caribbean share the North American Numbering Plan. The three digits after the 1 — the area code — identify the country.
Do I drop the leading zero? Usually yes: most local numbers are written with a trunk 0 that is not dialled internationally. Keep it only where guides say otherwise (Italy is the famous exception).
