Business name availability checklist

A guided checklist for checking a business name properly. Important: this tool does not check name availability itself — it organises the checks that are done on official registers and services.

Work through each step on the official register or service named, tick it off, and note the result. Notes are kept in memory on this page only and disappear when the page is closed. Nothing here performs a live check.

About this tool

Choosing a name takes several separate checks on separate systems, and no single search covers them all. This checklist does not check name availability itself — it organises the checks done on official registers: the state entity search, the federal trademark register, the local fictitious-name register, a domain registrar, social platforms and general web search. Each step carries a short instruction and a notes field for recording what was found, with a progress bar tracking completion. A name that passes every step is a strong candidate; a conflict at any step is a reason to adjust the name before spending on branding.

Common questions

Does this tool check whether a name is available? No. It does not run any check itself. It is a guided checklist that organises the checks done personally on official registers and services, with space to note each result.

Why are there so many separate checks? Entity registration, trademarks, domains and social handles live in separate systems with separate owners. A name can be free in one and taken or protected in another, so each needs its own check.

Are the notes saved anywhere? No. Notes and ticks exist only in the page's memory and are lost when the page closes or reloads. Anything worth keeping should be copied elsewhere.

Private by design: this tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing typed, pasted, or opened here is uploaded, stored, or tracked.
